Kolbon Oak Carpentry began in 1990 manufacturing and supplying quality hardwood timbers and beams to private customers, architects and the furniture industry as Kolbon Sp. J. Saw Mill (www.kolbon.com). Later we expanded our family business by the designing and building log homes from start to finish. Since then we have become more & more specialized, and now we focus on the Oak timber frame. We specialise in the manufacture of high quality Oak structural frames for all building types. Each frame is crafted from fresh sawn ( green ) Oak using traditional methods such as drawpegged (using seasoned Oak pegs) mortice and tenons and halving joints. We have a team of knowledgeable and dedicated craftsmen who are involved at every stage of the process from milling to topping out. We work on each project in hands on fashion, considering every beam & joint individually. Having the sawmill on the same site as the frame yard gives us unique advantages, enabling us to minimise waste and reduce transport, but above all it gives us the opportunity to select individual trees for each project. Most Oak timber framing is done with green Oak before the wood has a chance to dry, twist and crack - it is the best way. Once a frame is put together, the wood and/or steel plate joinery will hold the timbers in place. Our buildings are milled, framed and erected ‘off site’ in our yard before being transported to site. During this process we invite our clients to get flight tickets and just visit us so as to gain an insight and connection to their building. We always want to work closely with our clients to ensure that our clients are integrally involved and satisfied with their building.

We offer a complete Oak framing services. We work on projects of all sizes, from the supply only of a single feature truss or interior beamwork to the design and construction of complex roof or building structure. Our involvement includes design and supply, as well as installation for more complex projects. We can design in detail the structural Oak frame once your planning-permission drawings have been prepared by your architect. We can create 2 & 3 dimensional drawings and generate a 3D model to allow you to see and gain a true impression of your proposed structure. The timber frame package compiles both working drawings and accurate component lists.

Oak timber frames always bring a rich beauty, which remains unequalled, creating buildings of great function, warmth and strength. We can match your exact needs by building a unique property of a great character. Oak has the visual flexibility so it can be used on the most traditional designs, or highly contemporary buildings, where it's combined with modern materials such as glass and stainless steel. More and more, interior designers are turning to Oak beams to add special touch to their projects. Oak Beams can be rough and rustic, have a country look or fit perfectly into an elegant English manor home. An interior design project doesn't have to encompass an entire house or building. Often, we fabricate custom trusses and ceiling beams for a single room, porch or hallway. Sometimes an indoor swimming pool is perfect with natural Oak beams above it, and sometimes a few Oak posts and beams make a simple living room into a 'great room'. Our team of framers and carpenters take great pride in making your dreams a reality.

The Oak used in all of our Oakwork is sourced from sustainably managed woodlands. Timber is a natural product which will react to changes in atmospheric conditions. When an order is dispatched, it will have been recently sawn or machined. With the passage of time and variations in the weather, we cannot guarantee that the timber will not move or crack a little - in fact an Oak frame is very likely to do just that. These subtle variations and the mellowing of colour enhance the natural appearance of the product and do not detract from its quality, strength or performance.
